Panthers-go-top-of-the-table

Chesterfield Panthers got off to a flying start this New Year, with an imposing 51-12 victory against Long Eaton this weekend. After more than 10 years in Midlands 4 East (North) Division, Chesterfield Panthers produced a dominant display to put them top of the table.

This is a great start to 2014 for our 1st XV and brought the Panthers’ consecutive game wins to eight, of which seven have been league games. The result means the Panthers go ahead of their promotion rivals Amber Valley, who lost away. Panthers’ position at the top was further cemented when local rivals Tupton RUFC also lost.

Chesterfield Panthers’ 1st XV captain, Steve Avenier commented: “We have continued to build and work hard over the Christmas break and to perform how we did today is a testament to all the players’ hard work. We are building a unique culture at Chesterfield, which is delivering results.”

Avenier added: “Today’s 51-12 win against Long Eaton and move to the top of the table sends a clear message to our rivals that we are the best team in the league. We are focused on promotion and we have the squad to do it.”

This season the Panthers have been soaring high and much credit must be given both to the move and fantastic new facilities, which has seemed to breathe life into the team and club and also the focus and commitment of the team. The Panthers must now continue to build on this momentum and push forward for the rest of the season, with the ultimate aim of the title victory.

Even with the current winning streak, the Panthers cannot afford to lie on their laurels now though and have some tough matches coming up. Panthers are now on the prowl for further success with top of the table clashes in January against Amber Valley and Tupton.

The club and team would like to take this opportunity to thank, all of those who have supported us through the move and the start of the season and wish you all the very best for 2014. Promotion here we come!
