Sponsors boards go up at new ground

Sponsors' pitchside boards have gone up at the new Chesterfield Panthers ground at Dunston Road.

Sponsors names - Somersall Financial Management, Maun Motors, Saltergate Physiotherapy Clinic, Gordon Lamb and Fastsigns - now appear around the first team pitch, adding a finishing touch to the club's £2 million investment in the new ground and facilities.

The boards went up at the ground at the start of a busy opening weekend for the club, with more than nine rugby and football home games scheduled to be played, including the 1st XVs first home league game against Leesbrook.

Further pitchside sponsors are expected to come on board later in the season as the club adds more fencing around the ground. Additionally, pitch number 2 is sponsored by Somersall Financial Management and will shortly display branded post protectors and flags.

In addition to pitchside advertising, there are a number of sponsorship opportunities at Chesterfield Panthers' new ground. For more information contact Anna Melton on 07837 108559.

New Panthers badge launched

Ahead of the opening of Chesterfield Panthers RUFC’s purpose-built £2 million ground in Dunston, the Club has launched its brand new badge.

The badge, which still retains the all-important crooked spire and panther, will appear on team kits and signage around the new ground from August 2013 ahead of the start of the new season. The new badge was designed by local firm Deaf Eye Creative.

Explaining the decision to change the logo, Club President Michelle Lord explained: “After more than 90 years at our former ground in Stonegravels, the move to Dunston Road heralds a new era for the Club and it was time for our image to reflect that also.”

Nearly £2 million has been invested in the new 23-acre landscaped sports ground, which boasts three rugby pitches, a cricket square, two football pitches and a multi-use games area (MUGA) as well as a fully licensed clubhouse with extensive changing facilities– all available for private hire. The investment has created an unrivalled community sports facility in north east Derbyshire,

Funding for the new ground and facilities was made possible through the sale of the old ground at Stonegravels, as well as significant funding from Sport England, Rugby Football Foundation and Derbyshire County Council.

Chesterfield Panthers RUFC 1st XV currently play in the Midlands Division 4 East (North), however the Club offers playing opportunities for men, women and children aged from two years old.

Wasps pro, Charlie Davies, returns to club for training session

Rugby pro Charlie Davies (23) returned to his former club, Chesterfield Panthers recently, to coach more than 30 of the club’s seniors at its brand new home ground in Dunston.

Charlie, now a scrum half for Premiership team London Wasps, volunteered to run a special one-off training session, instructing in handling drills that Wasps have been doing in their pre-season training. He also gave tips to improve skills. Although having left Chesterfield Panthers RUFC in 2007 to make his professional career debut at Nottingham RFC, Davies has retained strong links with the club.

He commented: “Chesterfield is a club very close to my heart as it is where I started my rugby life and so I will always have very fond memories.”

As well as running the training session, it was an opportunity for Charlie to check out the club’s brand new facilities at its new Dunston Road home ground, ahead of the start of the2013/14 season.

The club has invested more than £1.5 million in its new 24-acre home ground following the move from Stonegravels where it was based for 85 years.

The new ground now boasts comprises three floodlit rugby pitches, a cricket square, football pitches, a multi- use games area (MUGA), substantial onsite parking and a clubhouse; all of which will benefit the local community and are unrivalled throughout the area.

Charlie added: “It's great news to me that Chesterfield Panthers RUFC has moved to their new ground. This has been a long process so it's fantastic for the people that have worked so hard in making it happen and for the people that will benefit from it. It’s brilliant the club is growing and going new places. I wish all the best for the future for Chesterfield Rugby and that it keeps on moving up!”

Opening in August 2013, the facilities will be available for private hire as well as for use by the club’s 400 plus members.
