Chesterfield Panthers RUFC: A new era for rugby in Chesterfield

Chesterfield Panthers’ new Dunston Road home was officially unveiled by the immediate past president of the RFU, Paul Murphy. Member and Chair of the relocation committee Graham Bell received a lifetime achievement award on the day to commemorate his contribution to the Panthers’ relocation to its new ground.

MP Toby Perkins, himself a former player, addressed the 100-strong gathering held at the new clubhouse: “I am thrilled that Chesterfield Panthers have the new ground they have wanted so long. The club’s new facilities will raise the profile of rugby in the local area, improve participation in sport and benefit the wider community.”

The opening marked the end of a 25-year struggle to make the club’s vision for improved rugby facilities and a community resource a reality. It also marked the beginning of a new era for Chesterfield Panthers RUFC.

Thanks to significant funding from a number of sources, including Sport England, Rugby Football Foundation and Derbyshire County Council, Chesterfield Panthers now has a 23-acre landscaped sports ground boasting outstanding facilities, including three rugby pitches, a cricket square, 2 football pitches and a Multi-Use Games Area as well as our clubhouse, which includes six changing rooms.

Sport England’s Property Director Charles Johnston said: “Good sports facilities play an important role in local communities; they not only improve people’s sporting experience but also help attract new participants. The popularity of this fund has exceeded our expectations showing an appetite from sports clubs up and down the country to celebrate the legacy the Olympic and Paralympic games.”

Panthers’ have been on winning form this season, coupled with the outstanding facilities at the club, has helped bring it to the attention of a number of sponsors, including Franke, Gordon Maun Motors, NIBE, Somersall Financial Management, Gordon Lamb and MSE Hiller, Knights Care and Saltergate Physiotherapy, Stratstone BMW all keen to invest in the community and future of rugby in Chesterfield.

The club has 16 teams in total, offering playing and training opportunities for players of all abilities and levels, girls and boys as young as 2 years old, through its Panther Cubs, helping the club spot and develop talent in its junior players from a very young age.

Maun Motors are now proud sponsor of the dress shirts for all of the senior teams to wear after matches.  Maun Motors are self-drive and commercial vehicle hire specialists who have been trading for over 40 years.  With over 800 vans and trucks for hire and a wide range of specialist vehicles including refrigerated vehicles and crane lorries’, they really can cater for all types of businesses.

This is another big name to join as sponsors and support the teams’ and the community, of Chesterfield Panthers RUFC, with their valuable support of the club.  The £2 million new facilities are not only helping to attract new sponsors and supporters of the club but new players are joining week on week.  Fast becoming a formidable side to encounter on their home-turf, the Panthers 1st XV currently sit 2ndin the Midlands Division League and are on course for promotion in 2014.

MSE Hiller Thrilled to be Sponsoring the Chesterfield Panthers Senior Team

MSE Hiller new premises at Markham Vale

Chesterfield based, MSE Hiller has announced its proud sponsorship of training tops for all of the Chesterfield Panthers' senior players.

Established in April 2001, MSE Hiller are leaders in the supply and rental of centrifuges and sludge dewatering systems. The company recently built and moved into new state of the art premises (pictured), located just off Junction 29A of the M1 motorway at Markham Vale.

Huw Thomas, sales director at MSE Hiller said, "Both my sons have played for Chesterfield, Will Thomas (Fly half) and Oliver Thomas (Wing) and my daughter Laura Thomas also trained and played there for a short time too. My youngest son Oli now 17, currently plays for the second team on the wing.

"I myself was involved for several seasons as a coach / manager at the old Stonegravels ground running a team through from U14 to U17s.

"We’ve had some great times and made some great friendships at Chesterfield Panthers and it’s nice to be able to support and give a little bit back to the club.

Conferencing Facilities now Available for Hire

Chesterfield Panthers RUFC opened its doors in August 2013 following £1.8 million of investment in outstanding sports and hospitality facilities at the new ground, located at 2012 Dunston Road, Chesterfield.

Since opening, the club has welcomed a number of local businesses all keen to utilise the fantastic new facilities within Chesterfield Panthers RUFC Conference & Hospitality suite.

There are two rooms available for hire at very reasonable rates, which can cater for up to 100 delegates.  Chesterfield Panthers RUFC Conference & Hospitality offers a real alternative to traditional conferencing facilities.  Ideal for business meetings, conferencing, training sessions, large parties and any other function; whatever your event, we are confident that our friendly and personal service will make it special.

The Conference Room can seat up to 100 whilst the Training Room is suitable for smaller meetings and events and can seat up to 30 people.   Both rooms have direct access to the fully licensed bar facilities and there is a large fully-equipped catering kitchen. 

Located on Dunston Road within easy access of Chesterfield Town Centre, Chesterfield Panthers’ ground and facilities are just a few moments away from the A61 bypass and easily accessible from the motorway network and neighbouring Sheffield.

The venue has disabled access and there are fully accessible toilets, on-site free parking, excellent audio-visual facilities and free WIFI throughout the venue.  A range of catering packages are also available upon request.
